Are Mediums Born?

The idea of being a medium—someone who can communicate with spirits or souls from other realms—is often tied to both nature and nurture.

Some schools of thought believe mediums are “born” with natural abilities, while others think these abilities can be developed over time through practice, training, or personal experiences.

For myself, I did not realize that I had any gifts growing up.  I had a very normal and busy upbringing.

It wasn’t till later on in my life and going through many difficulties that I realized that I was very sensitive to people’s emotions and could read them and psychically understand what will happen in the future.  I learned that I had a sensitivity to the spirit world.

When I began my journey of exploring the afterlife and trying to understand the circle of life, I uncovered a yearning within myself, a desire to learn more about the spirit world and communicating with the spirits.

It was in the early days of taking classes over an 8-year period to understand how to connect to the spirit world that I was able to gain much knowledge about the spirit world and connecting with our loved ones who have passed.  I feel I was born with these abilities, but they lay dormant within me until much later in life.

For yourself, you may find that you are a sensitive individual who can psychically read the room that you are in, and have always been able to read your parents reactions, or psychically are able to know what is in the near future. These are capabilities that are often shown prior to the development of mediumship.

Which one of these do you feel you most relate to?

  1. Born with the Gift: Some mediums feel they have had these abilities since childhood, noticing signs like heightened intuition, seeing or hearing things others don’t, or feeling connected to the spiritual world from a young age.
  2. Developed Abilities: Others believe that mediumship is a skill that can be cultivated. Through meditation, mindfulness, and spiritual development, some individuals may open themselves to these abilities later in life.
  3. Latent Abilities: Some believe that many people have latent mediumistic abilities that can surface during times of crisis, trauma, or deep spiritual transformation.

These beliefs vary depending on personal experiences and our own spiritual development. Some view mediumship as a calling, while others see it as a universal potential that can be accessed by anyone.

If you find you are drawn to mediumship and have a sensitivity and yearning to learn more,  I encourage you to seek out a development group, mentor, and like-minded individuals that can assist you in your development.   There are many great courses that are well-taught, and there are some that are not, so please do your homework and research and always be sure to ask for referrals.
