Sometimes as a parent, we may run into a time when our child says they see spirits. This happened to me in fact.
When my daughter was quite young, she talked about seeing a lady with the name Alisa. I inquired further with whom she was talking to and she vaguely described Alisa in her mind’s eye. Her conversations with Alisa had gone on for months, but they were sporadic in timing.
Although my daughter mentioned this lady a number of times to me, I didn’t really know what to say or do when replying to her at the time. It can be a delicate subject, when our child says they see spirits. What should a person say to a young daughter about what she’s seeing? Should you say they are coo-coo and ignore them, or acknowledge it and see what happens?
In my experience, there is only one thing to do when a child says they see spirits.
What To Do If Your Child Says They See Spirits
After consulting with a mentor medium at the time, I provided him the background on my daughter and asked for his suggestions. This was his advice.
When chatting with a young person or child that says they are seeing spirits or communicating with someone in spirit through their mind’s eye, hearing or sensing the spirit, it’s important to acknowledge your child. Tell them you hear and accept what they are saying. Do not overreact, and definitely do not make a big deal out of their possible communications.
One thing we don’t want to do is overreact as this will put more pressure on our child and quite possibly make them feel that they are unable to communicate with us, or trust us.
What happened after I acknowledged my daughter’s spiritual communications? Well, the discussion faded and the comments about Alisa faded as well.
Why do some children feel and sense spirit?
Spirit provides communication when children and ourselves are often in an altered state of consciousness. It’s very common that children are often playing mindlessly, painting or colouring, or even just relaxing on the floor and it’s in these times that their minds are able to wonder and quite possibly connect to the other side.
When an adult medium connects to spirit, we use this same altered state of consciousness to feel, sense, smell, see and know the sprint world is there and communicate with them. Children have an innate gift to be able to alter their state of consciousness because they are less busy with stress, workloads, and demands of the day. Us adults take a lot more work as we often have much more going on in our lives.
So the fact that children may alter their state of consciousness is one of the reason why children often talk about seeking Grandma, Grandpa and other family members, even animals and old family friends.
Children can have this gift and it may stay with them till puberty or beyond, or may only stay with them for a few months. We never know as each person is very different. One thing I realized is that the recommendations from the mento medium were very helpful and I was very appreciative of them.
At the end of the day when a child says they see spirits, we must simply stay calm and see what happens.
