Someone once asked me if mediums and psychics can get burned out from doing readings. Darn right you can! It’s so important to learn about preventing spiritual burnout if you’re a spiritual medium or psychic reader.
Similar to many functions in life, too much of a good thing can cause over-extension and burnout, in this case, spiritual burnout or psychic burnout. When engaging in a large number of mediumship and psychic readings, a medium has the potential to burn out rather easily, so learning about preventing spiritual burnout is an absolute must!
Burnout problems can create an overabundance of tiredness, anxiety and/or depression. A medium requires usage of the body’s energetic energy to be able to connect to the spirit world or to the person in front of them, often called a sitter. Doing this connection over and over is what can cause stress on the system and lead to spiritual or psychic burnout.
Do I get spiritual burnout?
Throughout the bustle of everyday life, I embrace the chance to connect to the spirit world because it actually makes me feel rejuvenated; it leaves me with a bit of a high and a feeling of love that often comes with every reading. This is wonderful because instead of getting burned out, the spirit energy is uplifting and healing for the sitter, myself, and the spirit world, and I don’t have to worry about preventing spiritual burnout as much.
However, too much of a good thing really can cause problems for a medium if they aren’t aware about preventing spiritual burnout. If one completes back-to-back readings, now and then there is a good possibility that the medium will feel drained. That is natural human nature in any activities we do back-to-back. For myself, I have a maximum number of readings I do each day, and I will not read on weekends. This is a boundary I have set up for my own health in order to help with preventing spiritual burnout.
Here Are Some Tips For Preventing Spiritual Burnout
- Be mindful of your mental well being
- Seek the positives in life
- Stay connected to family and friends
- Maintain routine
- Eat well and exercise
- Allow for buffer time between readings
As I said before, if a medium provides many sittings in a short amount of time, they may find themselves drained, so it is not uncommon that mediums will take breaks, or have certain days off per week to avoid psychic burnout. From my experience, attention should always be considered so as not to affect one’s mental health.
Taking care of one’s body is an important aspect of mediumship. Being part of nature, being close to family, and looking after oneself is important if a person wants to look after their mental well being. It’s much easier to look after yourself with a good night sleep, good food, and some exercise to assist in the clarity of the mind. Mediumship and psychic work is mind work, so the more clear the mind is, the better off one will be.
Try not to overextend in life and work; there is always a balance in trying to help many people. Take time for yourself to heal so you can help heal others. The spirit world needs mediums that are happy and healthy.
