Chakras

The Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head. It is not associated with an element, but its colour is violet and/or white. The Crown Chakra is responsible for awareness, intelligence, life purpose, enlightenment, and spiritual connections. It is the chakra where a lot of connection to outer worlds happens (such as angels, spirit guides, etc).  Because of its connection to inspiration, it is most often strongest with writers, composers, musicians, artists – anyone who has artistic inspiration and expression. Crown Chakra & Doing Readings When I was practicing and learning, I was taught that when you do an opening of your chakras, you only go up to the brow/third eye chakra and do not open the last one, the crown. The reason for this is that during a reading, we don’t want to start bringing in additional outer-worlds unintentionally.  When you open up your Crown Chakra, you are susceptible to receiving information from outer worlds like spirit guides, angels, or archetypes, and this information may skew the reading, because there’s no way to know if it is the reader’s spirit guide showing up, or the sitter’s guide.  So, while there is nothing wrong with opening up your Crown Chakra, I would only do it privately for yourself and not during a reading for another person. You already have your own wisdom, and it’s best to stay with that during readings and not open up too far.  Spirit guides and angels are very sacred and specific to each of us, so I personally would never give a spirit guide reading to someone. This is what I’ve been taught and is what I believe. You cannot validate any evidence for spirit guide readings, which is what we want in a mediumship or intuitive reading, so again, I do not open my Crown Chakra because of this. Instead, there are meditations you can do privately to meet your spirit guide as it is sacred.

The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is, unsurprisingly, located in the throat area. Its associated element is ether and its colour is blue. The Throat Chakra represents communication and is most associated with the ability of clairaudience, or ‘clear hearing.’ It is very much a spiritual centre because of this. Sometimes I see a lot of blue individuals, not because they are feeling blue, but because of their communication when they come to see me. It’s one of the most common colours. When we are not communicating well in life, then the blue colour is not as bright. When we are communicating well, it’s a brighter blue.  Throat Chakra & Clairaudience The Throat Chakra is responsible for the majority of our clairs interestingly enough, but especially clairaudience as it relates to spiritual connections.  Personally I don’t hear really well during readings, but will often get music in behind me and often the spirit wants to talk about the music that was played at their funeral. When you have clairaudience, you will get an impression of a sound in your head but won’t have actually heard a sound with your ears.  As such, one type of hearing is subjective in the brain i.e nobody else hears it and spirit plants the sound in your aura. And the other type of hearing is objective, hearing things outside the body at the same time someone else hears it. With the chakra system, the majority of hearing comes through within the body, especially when the Throat Chakra is activated.

The Third Eye or Brow Chakra

The Brow, or Third Eye, Chakra is located between our eyes and slightly above. It does not have an element but its colour is indigo. The Brow Chakra is responsible for imagination, intuition, and visualization. As such, lucid dreaming and telepathy is often associated with it, as are clairvoyance (clear seeing) abilities. The Brow Chakra is often where we can access ‘beyond wisdom.’ Why we say ‘beyond wisdom’ is because mediumship and intuition gives us something we weren’t supposed to know. We receive information we didn’t know before.  Brow Chakra & Visualization If you are someone who can sit on a park bench and go off into la la land and visualize or take a trip in your mind’s eye, visualize the hotel and what the beach will look like, then you can do visualization imagination processes. This skill is extremely helpful to intuition and mediumship because spirit will be able to use your skills and your experiences you’ve already seen. They don’t always want to use things you’ve never seen before so they try to use pictures that you already have experienced. As such, if you’re already great at imagination and visualization, then this will be amazing for developing clairvoyance and opening your Brow Chakra.  I must admit, clairvoyance does not come easily for me. We all have abilities and for some of us, some will be better at feeling and sensing while others are better at seeing. I’m better at sensing. Sometimes I don’t see as much as I’d like to during readings. But another reader may see a lot, but not get a sense of the personality of spirit. Why is that? Well, it’s because different chakras are being ignited.  Someone from a young age who has lucid dreaming and great imagination can take that forward into intuitive & mediumship development. Sometimes it can be too much though, so we have to learn how much is too much visualization for us and how much isn’t enough.

The Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra’s element is air and its colour is green. It’s responsible for healing and transformation and represents love, compassion, sensitivities, and forgiveness. It deals with the trust, passion and love for self and others. It’s located near your heart. In our lifetime, we’ll go through a number of healings that we need in order to heal, and the Heart Chakra is paramount for this. With the Heart Chakra, you feel the pain of grief and loss – that’s the energy of your Heart Chakra. It doesn’t have much to do with communication but it does play a huge part in your transformation of who you are in life.  Healing with the heart chakra When we have wrong done to us, it takes a lot of healing to go through and that healing is done through the heart chakra.  When I sit with someone I’ve never met before, my Heart Chakra actually opens up for them because I know that person is coming to me because they need some healing. They need that helpful understanding, and so what happens is between my Naval Chakra and my Heart Chakra, I engulf the person to give them some healing at the same time.  Most mediums are very kind and do mediumship because of their own healing and how it opens up that unconditional love for others. You can push that Heart Chakra out to help strengthen love.

The Naval Chakra

The Naval Chakra, sometimes called the solar plexus chakra, is such an important chakra when connecting to intuition or mediumship. This chakra is the one that fires up our connection the most.  The Naval Chakra is responsible for our purpose and personal identity. Its element is fire and its colour is yellow. It governs our self-esteem and confidence, that warrior energy and the power of transformation. The Naval Chakra also ignites our intuition and gut instincts, especially clairsentience. It is located in the stomach area.  Naval Chakra & Mediumship When doing mediumship or intuitive readings, the Naval Chakra is what fires up because of it being associated with our gut instincts. Sometimes people feel like they’ve got a tumbling feeling in their gut, a sense of butterflies. With this chakra, you may feel clairsentience kick in, a sense of knowing. The Naval Chakra is the basis for that.  In addition, the Naval Chakra is your foundation for all communication. It’s what gives you the grounding for intuition and mediumship. If you can ignite your Naval Chakra prior to your clairsentience or clairvoyance, you’ll have much stronger communication because it’s a stronger feeling of the person you’re sitting for. When you have a heightened naval Chakra, you will also find that you can telepathically talk to spirit. When we meet people and our Naval Chakra is heightened, our belly goes out to people sometimes. We don’t usually notice this but the belly does a lot of work throughout the day. After working with the Naval Charka, you may feel tingly or sore in the stomach after, or even hungry.

The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located just below the belly button. Its associated element is water, and its colour is orange. The Sacral Chakra represents pleasure, sexuality, and creativity. It’s responsible for our wellness, abundance, pleasure and joy. It houses our creative and artistic energy as well as our sexual energy.  Sometimes we may meet a really artistic creative person and notice that they are so confident in their sexuality and have this amazing flow to them. They often see things so much brighter and have this joyful energy. If you’re not feeling joyful or creative, then that tells us your Sacral Chakra is off. Your orange colour is dulled. When dulled, this chakra creates an imbalance in us and it can also create depression, so be mindful of that.  How to activate your sacral chakra To enhance the Sacral Chakra and this orange colour, you must find creative ways of being. Sometimes we don’t even realize how creative we can be. It doesn’t matter what your type of creativity is, it can be anything so long as you find your creative joy and the time to do it. Remember though, creativity does not necessarily mean artistic, so don’t feel you have to be making some sort of art in order to be creative.  It’s really about finding our own sense of creativity and expressing it to help our Sacral Chakra become heightened.

The Root Chakra

When we go into mediumship development, we have to ignite our intuition by starting at the base chakra, also called the Root Chakra. This is a very important chakra for grounding ourselves before we begin a reading.  What does the root chakra mean? The Root Chakra is represented by the element of earth and the colour red. It is all about grounding and stability, the foundations of our life and sense of security. The Root Chakra affects the physical aspects of our world – water, food, shelter, finances and material possessions. It is also responsible for confidence and self-esteem. The Root Chakra is located in our sacrum, the tailbone.  How does the root chakra affect a reading? When I sit down with a client, whether I’m doing an Intuitive, Mediumship, or Blended reading, I really have to make sure my red chakra is strong because if it’s not, I’m going to lack confidence in the reading. I won’t have a strong sense of security about who I am. I won’t be grounded enough and will probably waffle a lot in the reading.  When our Root Chakra is off and we sit down with someone to do a reading for them, we may at first feel so excited, but then we start to waffle. This is a sign that our confidence and stability are down. This means we’re leaking energy from the Root Chakra, the base of our chakra system. It really is so important to have this chakra activated securely before we begin any connection to another person or to the spirit world.  How to activate your root chakra Why is it that some women wear red suits in business meetings? Why do men like to buy red corvettes? It’s all about promoting that sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. Red is a bold, passionate colour. It grounds us in who we are. I personally don’t wear red, but even just having the knowledge of red in my mind before I sit for a reading helps greatly.  You can build up that energy of the root chakra by wearing red, envisioning red, connecting to your physical world, Perhaps hold a crystal in your hand and focus on the area around your sacrum. Anything that you do in life that keeps you grounded, doing more of those things will help with healing the Root Chakra.

Do chakras help with mediumship and psychic readings?

The chakra system is such an important aspect of intuitive development, and you may have even wondered if chakras help with mediumship and psychic readings. Interestingly enough, although mediumship involves communicating with spirits or entities from the spiritual realm and building energy, it is not directly related to or dependent upon the chakra system. However, some spiritual practices may involve working with the chakras in order to enhance psychic or intuitive abilities, which can include mediumship.  For myself, I believe that our chakra system (our energy centres) has a relationship with our mediumship. For an example, if our Root Chakra is not strong and we are not feeling confident in who we are, our mediumship can be shaky and we may doubt ourselves when conducting a reading. Or if our throat chakra is not optimal, a medium will have difficulties communicating with the sitter and/or family in the spirit world. Our Chakra system, while not directly related to mediumship and psychic work, does have a hand in the development of a medium or psychic. I recommend learning about the energy centres and how they will support you and your spiritual development. Mediumship is working with various energy sources after all, and one source that we can turn to is the chakra system.   Have a look below at the chakra system and how it may impact yourself: Base or Root Chakra  Colour: RedElement: EarthMeaning: Grounding, StabilityLocation: Sacrum/tail boneResponsible for: Physical and material world, food, water, shelter, foundation of life, sense of security, survival instincts, stability, confidence and self esteem Sacral chakra Colour: OrangeElement: WaterMeaning: Pleasure, sexuality, creativity Location: Below belly buttonResponsible for: sexuality, artistic & creative energy, wellness, abundance, pleasure, joy Naval or Solar plexus chakra Colour: YellowElement: FireMeaning: Self-esteem, confidence Location: Stomach areaResponsible for: Warrior energy, power of transformation, self-esteem, purpose, personal identity, intuition, gut instincts, clairsentience Heart Chakra   Colour: GreenElement: AirMeaning: Love and CompassionLocation: Centre of chest/heart areaResponsible for: Sensitivity, forgiveness, unconditional love, trust, passion, self-love, healing and transformation Throat Chakra Colour: BlueElement: EtherMeaning: CommunicationLocation: Throat areaResponsible for: Communication, speaking your truth, self-expression, finding your voice, being heard, spiritual centre, clairaudience Brow or Third Eye chakra Colour: IndigoElement: NoneMeaning: Imagination, intuition, visualization Location: Between your eyesResponsible for: Expanded imagination, visualization, beyond wisdom, lucid dreaming, telepathy, clairvoyance Crown chakra  Colour: White or VioletElement: NoneMeaning: Awareness and intelligence Location: Top of your headResponsible for: Life purpose, inspiration, connection to the outer worlds, enlightenment, spiritual connections The Importance of Chakras Overall, the chakra system is very important for understanding our energy, especially when we are feeling depleted in one area. Chakras can be used to facilitate intuitive and mediumship development, but they are not wholly necessary for conducting a mediumship or psychic reading itself. However, I encourage you to dig deeper into chakras and learn how to connect with them in order to build up your energy.
