This is such an interesting topic! What is psychometry? Do you possess psychometric skills?
Psychometry is the ability to use extrasensory perception to gain information about an object’s history. It involves holding an object and sensing events, people or situations associated with the object. In 1842, Joseph Rodes Buchanan coined the term “psychometry” which is from Greek origins meaning “measuring the soul.”
What exactly is meant by ‘measuring the soul’?
Measuring the soul means you are using the psychic abilities that comes from your soul to ‘measure’ or read an object’s history.
Mediums and psychics use their soul to read and feel other people or spirits. It’s the same thing when an object is involved. Anyone with intuitive and psychic abilities (which everyone has!) can develop great psychometric skills. The reading of an article can include the present or past. Often people are interested in items from different eras and time periods.
Because of an object’s energy field, which Buchanan called “emanation,” an item can hold and transfer information of the past including its whereabouts. This is what your soul picks up on. Think of a time you went into an antique store and were drawn to an article that you liked. You were feeling drawn to that article’s emanation!
For instance, a person can use their soul to measure an object by picking up a necklace and provide a reading based on feeling the necklace and sensing where this necklace had been, who wore it, and what was the person’s personality was like. All mediums and psychics are able to do this and develop their psychometric skills.
What is psychometry and how can we use it?
Psychometry is completely amazing! Not only is it possible to read and connect with other beings (living or passed), but it’s also possible to connect with the environment around you and read inanimate objects with psychometric skills.
As an example, I once picked up an inexpensive black necklace with black metal flowers around some beautiful pink gems. It was a small light necklace. As I was blending with the necklace and became one with it, not allowing any thoughts from my conscious mind to intrude, I was able to feel and sense images with my intuitive abilities. I did not know who this information belonged to until after the reading, when the young lady confirmed all the information I obtained.
A medium or intuitive should be able to sense the emotions and the history of an object and provide this information to the owner. For a medium or psychic, this is a great skill that can be developed and practiced. This skill can take a short time to develop or it can be many years. Everyone’s different!
It is my belief that mediums and intuitive do not practice psychometric skills as much as other types of psychic skills, even though psychometry is just as important for readings.
Practicing Psychometry
The best way to practice psychometry is to practice with an object where you do not explicitly know who the owner of the item is. For instance, if a sitter brings you an item to read, be sure the sitter does not disclose who owns the item, even if they are the owner, until after the reading. And if the owner happens to be deceased, be sure to have someone around (presumably the sitter) who can validate the information you provide. This can be anyone who knew the owner well or who knows the object’s history already.
After the psychometry reading I mentioned above with the black necklace, I knew the owner was bright, bubbly and outgoing with customers and friends. Through the necklace, I was able to feel her ongoing concerns related to health issues, which she later confirmed. I sensed that decisions were becoming more and more difficult, but that she would resolve them. I have condensed the information here, but overall the bubbly, outgoing owner agreed with the reading of her object.
What is interesting is that we don’t often believe or realize that an object can hold energy and have a story to tell. But I am sure that we all have picked up an object and immediately felt drawn to it, wondered where it had come from and what the object’s story was! That energy is what the medium and psychic would also feel and be able to read.
There are many people who find unusual or lost items that they want to discover more information about. Have you found a strange object?
