How to tell the difference between intuition and thoughts

A client asked me recently: “How do I tell the difference between intuition and thoughts?” This is a great topic as there are many of us that will question this, especially when we start developing our intuitive skills or enhancing what we already have.

When doing intuitive work, we all face the challenge of assessing whether or not the information we are receiving is coming from our mind, our thoughts, or our intuition, which often wants to tell us something important. At some point or another, many of us have had to make an important decision in life and had to use our internal skills, like intuition, to help us along our path. But how do we determine what is the mind and the intuition?

Finding The Difference Between Intuition and Thoughts

It’s actually rather easy to tell the difference between intuition and thoughts. With using your intuition, there is a knowing – you just know! You know from that feeling in your tummy, the feeling of your gut instinct. You just absolutely know. You may not be sure how or why, but you just know. This is the intuition we all have. Embrace your inner knowing as it will be your guide in life. You’ll know when it’s your intuition because it will feel direct, clear and safe.

However, with your mind and your thoughts, if you are utilizing your mind to receive guidance and information, you will often have doubts and questions. Your mind may start racing or doubting itself. Your mind will ask questions like “Is this right?” and  “Should I be doing this?”  These types of questions occur when we are utilizing the mind to provide the answers. In other words, we are trying to think our way to the answers, instead of receive them from within.

Intuition Is Effortless

When using your intuition, you’ll know because the answer seems to come effortlessly from within, from the centre of our body, from a place of just knowing. The body will feel positive and give a big ‘yes.’ You’ll physically feel supported, whereas the mind will question everything about the subject.

So next time you experience a strong positive knowing about something that is right for you, please know that this is a sign you are using your intuition, and know that its guidance will always steer you in the right direction.
